Why did I build Bookshelf?
After graduating college and finding myself with an abundance of free time over the summer, I thrust myself into reading voraciously, picking up the next book immediately after putting the last one down.
But I quickly realized that, although my book count was increasing rapidly, I wasn't actually retaining much of what I read. I built the first version of Bookshelf—at that time, a simple, offline-first book tracker with a single text field for capturing relevant notes—to help me process and better remember what I was reading.
A few weeks after launching on the App Store, Bookshelf was featured as one of Apple's "Apps We Love" and voted #2 Product of the Day on Product Hunt—signals that I had stumbled upon something interesting.
Fast forward 4 years, and Bookshelf has grown to a fully-featured app helping readers of all types, with over 225,000 downloads and 2,000+ 5-star reviews.
